ToneTel Telecom (Surrey Phones) - Cabling Services

ToneTel Telecom engineers provide a range of professional cabling services to the small & medium business premises for both new installations and existing cabled installations where additional points or repairs are needed.

  • Cat-5e Voice/Data Structured Cabling
  • Standard Telephone Block Wiring (cw1308)
  • PBX Phone System Extension Wiring
  • Network, ADSL Broadband & ISDN S-bus Solutions
  • Time Related Charges to meet individual requirements.
We are happy to advise you on the best cabling installation for your needs and will explain how we plan to install it with your agreement. One of our cabling engineers has a background in building maintenance and site work so can often suggest alternative ways to route cable that a traditional cabling installer may not.
save money on cabling, extension wiring - lower than bt costs
Recent Examples of Customer Savings:
A Guildford customer recently saved £34.00 per point on a 14-point Cat-5e structured cabling installation by ToneTel Telecom engineers against a BT quotation, giving a total saving of £476.00.  Additionally to minimise disruption ToneTel Telecom carried out the installation at a weekend, BT would normally charge more to do the same but in this instance were only able to complete the installation Mon-Fri.
A London customer recently saved £20.00 per point on a 13-point telephone extension wiring installation from their PBX system against a BT quotation, giving a total saving of £305.00. The customer needed two points added to the installation on the day, so we installed the extra 2 for the price of 1.

Cabling - Basics

Commonly ToneTel Telecom install two types of cabling:
cat-5, cat-6 cabling or telephone cw1308 bt extension wiring
Telephone Block Wiring (cw1308) is used for standard voice telephone connections from your phone system, cabling is star wired from the PBX to the individual outlet positions, this cabling is not suitable for data or PC use.  Where there are multiple rooms or floors being wired, large cables with multiple connections will be made between junction boxes to facilitate easy connection around each room.  Standard telephone cabling is the cheapest and most popular option for the small business.

Cat-5e (or Structured Cabling) can be used for voice or data, so a PC or telephone can be plugged into any outlet.
Normally the outlets are terminated into a patching panel near your phone system and network switch and/or router so that connections and changes can be easily made without an engineer visit.  Cat-5 cabling costs more than standard wiring but is essential if you need to be able to connect PCs and be able to move staff without paying for an engineer callout.

Calculating Pricing

There are many factors when calculating a price for your cabling but the more cabling points you have installed, then the cheaper the price will be per point.
As an example if you just need a single point cabling, we still need to price in the engineer hours needed to travel to your site and carry out the works etc so you might pay between £75 - £125.  But if you were having 10 points installed you might pay between £30 - £45 per point.   Voice/Data (Cat-5e) cabling prices will cost a little more than standard telephone wiring.
When surveying an installation, we take the following factors into consideration when calculating the price:
  • Total number of point being installed.
  • Outlets that are in the same location (shared cable runs).
  • Length of cabling runs.
  • Difficulties in cable run (hazards, furniture etc).
  • Ease of cable run (false ceiling or floors).
  • Material required (boxed trunking, patching cabinets etc).
  • Existing cabling that is suitable for test & reconnection.

Where possible and with your agreement we will save money by testing and reconnecting any existing site cabling rather than just charging to make new runs. We have been to many sites and seen perfectly good cabling unused as the customer had been persuaded that new cabling was required.
For some situations such as where disconnections and moves are required which do not come under a standard charging scheme, we may agree time-related charges with you so you only pay for the time needed to complete the works.
